Static screen Brightness in Ubuntu 19.10. Laptop is Lenovo Legion Y540

I am unable to change the screen brightness in my laptop. It is a Lenovo Legion Y540 which is dual booted with windows 10 and ubuntu 19.10.The brightness is just set to max and it’s static. The brightness option works fine in windows . Although I do have the sound option in ubuntu and I am able to adjust the brightness of my keys too. Any help is appreciated.

First off, are you running an Nvidia GPU and if so, are you using the proprietary drivers in Ubuntu?

There is some Gnome extension which will do it for you. Try https://extensions.gnome.org
