Suggested guidelines for use of AI replies in posts

You are correct in its use, but I tried it here in meetings and they do not understand the concept

Think there is no real answer we just have to try our best. Think, given our collective knowledge we can answer lots of questions but some are outside of our knowledge and experiance so we should not try to reply. Hence I would answer a mint question but not a red hat.

I dont use AI !

Played with a song création tool on it but quickly got bored with the results.

Hi Paul,

I believe that is the case, but with the guidelines that Neville published AND ALSO with everyone’s help in flagging any suspicious posts, we will have this issue more under control.

Thank you both for the action you are taking to mitigate AI posts on the forum.

More Neville than me to thank, he is more active on this one setting up suggested rules and guidelines. I bow to his superior knowledge.

I have another project taking up far too much of my time so only dipping my toes in at this stage. Some web site design and development I am doing creating and maintaining membership enrôlement forms for our association. We have currently 3 options plus 2 sub catégories and each has to be available in 4 languages. (No cannot use on line translation, tried that and it screwed up the site) Plus the collection of money on a different platform because of credit card interaction) . Plus the database at the end. Then generation of membership cards. Main difficulty for me is the language (when to use de, du, à et aux, not to mention l’) and the moving goalposts. Too many presidents and too many diverse directions. Plus they cannot decide what the price structure is going to be. Nightmare. Weekly meetings where everyone talks, no one listens, they write the minutes of the letting then one of the présidents changes to minutes) think I should get a proper job thus retirement is harder !

Hi @Tech_JA ,
I think you have the correct expression Jorge.
It means deliberately advocating something that is wrong, with the aim of shedding light on the topic

That is quite a clever way to make a point, Jorge.
Being genuine or sincere is more important than following rules… but almost impossible to quantify.

I think we may need some rules/guidelines that point people towards having the right attitude. … or any rule should be seen as a bare minimum to be followed, with other factors still to be considered.

The second answer is not quite how I would apply the rules, it is what people would do if all AI references were banned… they would simply use AI privately and present the response as their own creation.

What my suggested rules advocate is more like

I found the following on Google AI
" The command needed to display a value is echo"

To use this command in your situation you should type

echo $TERM

This will display your TERM variable

So, I say there has to be more input than ’ I hope this helps’ from the person posting.

Hi Neville,
Thank you for your response.

With the examples and your point of view that you just mentioned, I can answer your initial question:

I agree 100% with the guidelines.

Congrats on your excellent work.
