but, then I thought I should make it a topic so everyone could notice it and comment
If you include something that is a copy of an AI reply in your post you should put it in quotation marks and acknowledge the source. That is what they mean by ‘add a disclaimer’… it means you are not claiming it as your own work
AI material should not be the entire content of a post. There must be some intelligent human content from the person posting.
To quote @abhishek … “this forum is for human to human interaction”
In other words we should treat AI replies as items to be referenced, in the same way as one would reference an article or a book.
I am all for a limited amount such as the copyright law allows for a book, perhaps 1 paragraph but not large blocks as we have been seeing. Again références and marked so it is clear.
We all have the power of research at our disposal so a link to a site is fine.
There have been some posts using an AI generated writing style.
I think that is unacceptable .
Posts should be in normal polite English, that people can understand.
We can help and support people with language difficulties, but showing off with AI stylised text is not something we should tolerate.
Me too, but I am learning fast.
We have to have zero tolerance of this or it will ruin the forum.
No harm in flagging things, even if you are unsure… I need help from many pairs of eyes.
We all do, except those who have been trained.
My wife worked in the prison system and in courts. She questions everything.
We dont need to be like that here… lets try and keep the place pleasant and polite.
Just try and flag spam when you can… that makes it easy for me.
I think that usage of AI as part of a post is ok, provided the AI part is appropriately credited and the AI user provides enough information themselves to tell us there are thoughts, feelings, and opinions of an actual human being in there.

AI material should not exceed one paragraph or about 8 sentences or about
300 words in length. You need to mentally proccess your AI reply and extract the relevant section for a quote. Most effective quotations are short… one liners.
It is always preferable to refer to the original work ( eg a link or a book) than to use a review or an AI reply.
I changed this from rules to guidelines… see changed title
Does anyone want to disagree?
Hi @krwudtke2 ,
It would seem that permission to use the ‘…’ tools is related to your trust level.
Keep making contributions, and your trust level will rise , and then you will have permission to flag.
Trust levels are set automatically . Moderators do not interfere.
We appreciate you being interested in flagging . It helps keep the site clean.
For me, it’s just an AI dump with an additional intro and trailer. I really dislike this kind of post.
As I said earlier, why not simply say, I don’t know? Or you could simply write
Unfortunately, I cannot really help with your issue. I’d suggest forwarding your issue to one of the AI bots around.
That’s even better than flooding the forum with such nonsense, IMHO. Participating in a topic without having any opinion, hint, or solution is completely useless. My 2 cents.
I don’t have any solution, but I certainly admire the problem.

I am trying to control the ‘dump’ aspect by severely limiting the permissible length of AI quotes
and
I think I do say that the trailer has to contain intelligent human contributions… much the same as the sentences that would follow a quotation in any piece of text.
I think referencing AI is like referencing a review article. It is preferable to reference the original source of whatever material you are discussing.
Do you have any idea jow we can put a straightjacket around this, so that I have some solid basis for culling unwanted posts.
I agree with that, except there are occasional topics that are pure fun. Leave them alone
Dear friends,
Everyone already knows my opinion on the subject of AI, but allow me to play devil’s advocate.
I’ll use the most basic example I can think of to try to demonstrate what I think about what you discussed in your last posts.
Answer #1
Hi
According to ChatGPT, the command you want is as follows:
echo
I hope this helps.

Answer #2
Hi,
Try the following command:
echo
I hope this helps

What is the difference between the two answers?
In the first answer, I was sincere;
In the second answer, I formatted my response according to the forum rules.
I just want to say that this issue is not as straightforward as we might think or wish.
Which of us forum users has never been desperate, unable to find the answer to their problem, and perhaps asked for help here on the forum and received a post saying “I don’t know, but according to AI, this is what you need,” and is that enough to help?
In my opinion, it is the responsibility of all users to be careful with the posts they put on AI, but the responses must be legitimate and not formatted to circumvent rules, and we must also avoid this.
I truly believe this is a very sensitive subject and one that gives us a lot to think about.
Jorge
PS: “devil’s advocate” is a commonly used Portuguese expression with no religious connection. Please tell me a similar expression in English so I can change the expression, thank you.
