I suppose at least some of you here may have had this sort of experience…
I was doing some things with machinery this last week. I thought,
“I would love to be able to share this with my Dad”.
I cant , of course, he passed away long ago, in the 1970’s.
What I can do is remember who taught me to fix things… my father was clever with the technology of his day.
I think we all must experience that longing to not be separated from our departed friends and loved ones.
There is a special day for this, and it is called “All Souls Day” , always on Nov 2, and this year on a Sunday.
It is a special time to pray for the souls of our departed friends, and to remember.
Why is it the day after Halloween(All Saints Day)?
It is traditional. It dates to the 10th century, ie before the Reformation.
There has been considerable theological controversy, for example Martin Luther banned the concept of Purgatory. , but the practice has persisted… because people treasure memories
So, put aside some time today. Our ancestors are part of our world too. Give them a say.
