The Password System is Back on The Community Forum

Hello FOSSome people,

So for years, we have the (dis)comfort of unified login with It’s FOSS. This is called SSO (single sign on). After your initial resistance, most of you grew used to of it.

Now, you will notice that the forum is back to password-based login system.

That’s not by choice, I didn’t see it coming

Here’s the story if it interests you.

It’s FOSS use Ghost CMS to provide a membership website. They have released a new major version 6.0 which has some interesting features including native analytics. The thing here is that it only works with Docker–based Ghost installation.

Thankfully, they Ghost devs have provided scripts that migrate a native Ghost install to Docker Compose.

I wanted to try this new analytic feature and so I started migrating Learn Ubuntu and Linux Handbook first and when they completed successfully, I tried it with It’s FOSS (that’s why some downtime today).

The problem here is that to provide the single sign on/unified login, I used Discourse on Ghost and this extension only works with native Ghost install, not the docker version.

And since I had already moved things to Docker, going back will be tricky and thus we have to wait for Discourse on Ghost to be available via Docker.

Unfortunately, it means that the SSO feature had to be disabled and we are back to the classic days of password-based accounts.

If you don’t remember your account password or haven’t saved it to a password manager, you should be able to reset it. Please let me know if you face issues with it.

And once again, sorry for all the troubles I caused because I wanted the new shiny thing :frowning:

Do I sign in with my old account or with my Gmail account?Ar

Are we signing into the Foss Community or Its Foss, if so it would not let mw sign out.

The one associated with your current account should work. If there were no password set in first place, reset password should fix the issue.

I tested it. My original password works.
You might consider a message on the login page… not to use the email login.

Welcome to the world of things not going to plan.

Proton Pass obediently provided userid/password right away. Probably imported from Bitwarden. Very smooth for me.
