It looks promising. My only concern is that it’s an electron application. It’s a European application, though. This is nice because of the privacy regulations.
For me - I am OK with it with being an Electron app. but i am Leary with it being in EU
+.
Tintero has optional AI assistance. ?
Does that mean it is open to being misused to create AI fakes?
I would like to know what this AI assistance can be used for?
It may be something completely harmless. There is this tendency today to call everything AI, because it sells stuff. The term AI has become almost meaningless.
Deepl doesn’t know the word leary, but it does know the word leery.
What’s the problem with it coming from the EU?
This is what its website says about the AI:
I’ve checked out the application, by default it does not use AI and, as far as I understood, you can include your own, locally run one.
From what I understand, the AI is not supposed to do the actual writing.
That sounds OK.
I im very concern on the EU part. there been to many concerning things coming out in AU and the Uk that i was hoping California . I am very pro AI. i use it for work everyday. while most of it is slop. the helping of the Grammar and formatting is better then paying a publishing house 2k to redo it. There always to sides of the coin
You meant EU, not Australia?
We have our own problematic activities… like banning access to social media for under 16’s
i keep forgetting you guys are not EU but i meant both.
I do like the Privacy laws the EU has but it the others that are concerning.
Every so often I shown my ignorance and ask a question, so, whats wrong with the EU part ?
Like all Major political areas there are good and bad bits but does that effect software tools as well ?
Do NOT want to get into a political discussion, no interest in left right centre etc. Happy there are different data protection act in place.
That you wish to use AI for your work, is not of concern to the EU. What is of concern to the EU is what is done with your data by companies. They’ve got some good, sane regulations in that regard. Privacy is good, data ownership rules are strong.
I still don’t see what’s wrong with what the EU is doing. I’m not interested in politics either, but I am curious what makes you leery in regarding of the EU and software. Up to this point you haven’t said exactly why.
Hey everyone, Francisco here - Tintero developer
Sorry to intrude! (I literally have a “tintero writing app” alert set up)
First off, huge thanks to anyone giving the app a try, it means a lot!
Wanted to clarify a couple of things I saw in the thread:
Tech stack: It’s Tauri (Rust + WebView), not Electron. Electron was a hard no-go from day one. Tauri is significantly lighter, more secure, and way more performant.
AI integration: The AI isn’t embedded in the editor. Instead, you can connect:
The app sends selected context (worldbuilding elements, characters, chapter summaries…) so the AI understands your world before suggesting ideas or refinements. The request and the prompt is stored on your device and never on my server. It’s designed to enhance creativity, not replace it, the writing should always be yours.
Happy to answer any technical or feature questions, feel free to mention me!
Thanks again for the discussion ![]()
Thanks for enlightening us regarding the tech stack! That aleviates a lot of concerns.
I quite like the cleanliness of the GUI and its default color scheme (good for the eyes, yet warm and inviting).
Edit: spelling error
Welcome Francisco,
It is really nice to see a busy developer here on our forum helping us to clarify issues.
Tauri seems a better choice than electron.
That is just a tool for conversing with AI.
I think most people are comfortable with using AI as a helper.
It is when it gets used as a substitute for creative work that we are concerned about.
Thank you for contributing to our forum
Regards
Neville
Good to have you with us, normally we discourage product placement and sales pitch contributions but as yours was informative and useful, we appreciate your contributions

I’ve tested the Tintero writing app
and encountered issues with syncing with the cloud which are, as of this writing, not fixed.
When using the application on a cloud based project, after some testing, I’ve discovered it ONLY syncs to the cloud when you SPECIFICALLY save the project or file you’ve worked on first to the device. Otherwise it will not sync with the cloud, even though the GUI told you it was doing so.
This ambitious project is in its beta stages, but the author is responsive and on top of things. Beta means bugs. So, when you decide to use this, be careful. I already lost some data because of the bug I mentioned above.
right now im, still using Living writer. been testing it out by doing some world building stuff Though
