A reader, Michael Kolesidis, sent me an email and shared a redesigned, modern, and simplified version of our beloved Tux mascot that he designed and released under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license.
While I’m fine with the original Tux image, I like this rendering as well, so much so that I downloaded all available sizes of both images. While I agree that it’s important to pay homage to the history and traditions of GNU/Linux, our preferred OS is an always evolving system, and there’s nothing wrong with supporting the evolution of GNU/Linux as well. I believe we all can do both if we want to, and isn’t that a part of our GNU/Linux philosophy, namely, freedom of choice, and freedom of information?
Please note that these are a few of my thoughts about GNU/Linux, its philosophy, this modernized Tux image, and how it fits into our GNU/Linux Eco-system.
Hi @mickkb ,
Well, it is nice to see you on this forum.
Artistic people are needed in Linux and BSD.
Have you thought of contributing to the design of a DE? Have a look at Solus with Budgie desktop… There is obviouly someone at Solus with your sort of ability.
I guess there’d be copyright issues with using Pingu or Feathers McGraw…
However - I’m sure the Apple MkLinux (it was for PowerPC “old world” Macs - i.e. before openboot or PCI bus) installer had an animated Feathers McGraw during the installer - but I haven’t looked at MkLinux for 20+ years now… I can’t find the image that was using in MkLinux online… The Wikipedia page for MkLinux doesn’t have any images or logos…
