A W11 VM is really about all this machine can handle!!! A tad slow, but it is working, and with a little patience, W11 can be ran with VirtualBox and a Ubuntu host.
Due to machine issues with this VM, I have decided to take it down. The experience gained, has been invaluable, and with a better machine, the results would have been totally different, performance wise.
I have plans on a mobo upgrade with more ram, but that will have to wait on another day.
So is that a solution for those needing genuine Microsoft Office rather than imitations?
I can see several issues with that, but if one wishes to purchase a MS Office license, I am sure it will run, but not until one solves the W11 install issues!!! One needs a lot better machine than what I have, to run anything like MS Office, especially with a VM.
How would they go with ReactOS?
Have no idea, sounds like a good project for you to try!!!
It needs someone who knows Windows and uses Word
I installed ReactOS in virtualbox, it is pure crap!!! You can scratch that off your list, and I just wasted burning a CD to boot with. It might be better on real hardware, maybe I can slap another drive in this PC!!!
Thanks, now others will not waste their time.
Why use a CD… does it not boot from USB?
That is only part of the story, sure it runs, but who wants to run apps that are outdated and unsupported, like Firefox and version 48. As for Windows apps, about the only thing it can run is notepad and an old version of word, through wine.
Thought I would boot from the CD on one of my older computers, but that may be a waste of time!!!
So you cant install any Win app that you happen to have?
and
it uses Wine… that is rubbish, I can do that myself.
Their site is misleading.
I still do that sometimes. Old habits. It is slow.
I remember the days when Freebsd came on 10 floppy disks.
From what I see, if the Windows app is not supported in wine, then it will have very little chance to run on ReactOS.
My best advice, if Linux users are wanting to run Windows apps then install either W10 or W11 and run all the windows apps you want.
Sometimes that is the only way!!!
