Ubuntu Maker Canonical Generated Nearly $300M In Revenue Last Year

How do they do this sum, its not from the desktop free version, can only guess its server technology

I dont care how or how much.
They may be able to support some open source development with that… after all free desktop users contribute something to development through feedback.

I assume it’s through support contracts with companies using Ubuntu.

Is that gross revenue? The costs may need to be subtracted.

No idea how its calculated, if they float stock as is suggested for next year then all these njmbers boost share price. But not for me dont want to buy stocks

I’ve seen quite a few posts on Reddit about how long and difficult the process is to get a job at Canonical. I might like working for them, but maybe even better would be having the company I already work for adopt Ubuntu. I’m still encouraging that when I can.

I decided some 20 years ago that I was not a suitable employee and difficult to manage, so resigned and set up working for my self. After the first 6 months realised i was correct and not able to return to work for anyone else. No regrets and no way back.

So I will not be applying for this or any other post. Especially now I have tasted retirement and filled my days with more important things.

At the senior level - you have to have a one on one with Shuttleworth - read posts on Reddit where he could be rude and dismissive or something - I guess that sort arrogance is common (see: Jobs (Steve) or Musk (Elon)).
I did get one interview for a job working for Canonical but I didn’t cut the mustard and it didn’t go anywhere. I do have a local acquaintance in my town who works (or worked) for Canonical (lost touch with him a few years ago - who even uses LinkedIn? )

I am not a LinkedIn person either. I did join a couple times over the past 20 years or so. Each time I was “flooded” with people I knew (sort of knew) requesting me to “friend” them or whatever LinkedIn calls it. I didn’t join for others. I joined for me. It isn’t Facebook right?

I am pleased to report I have no friends, I am never swipped right, left up or down, i an not on any social media system and have no wish to join any of them.

I did have a cacebook account for 1 week, as i was staying in a hotel and the only way to get internet for free in the hotel was to link your facebook account, so made one up, no idea what it was called or the password, never been back to that hotel a d never used it since

Me too.
How do you deal with busineses that use facebook as a substitute for a webpage?

For me that shows a limited amount of knowledge, ok its free but not a great advert. Guess depends on your market audience and what you are selling. There are several in my area do faith healing, magnetic things, lotions and potions and other alternative stuff simply through facebook but no interest for me.

Dont think we class as social media ?
Or do others think different

No , but the whole Linux or Open Source collaborative approach to technology is a significant social phenomenon.
Linux is not just another OS… it is also a huge collaborative experiment… and therefore it is the people as well as the technology.
Open Source is not just code… it is your pathway to technological freedom.

Linus has an opinion on social media
