Unanswered questions

On this site most of the questions asked by members get at least one reply and on many occasions we all contribute in different ways to obtain a solution. Ok occasionally we drift off topic into other areas which develops the community spirit, which I am as guilts as most and very much in favour of continuing.

But what about questions that never get a reply even if we have several look and décidé not my area or I cannot help or cannot contribute.

Should we have a system in place that after 7 days with no replies we generate an automatic reply, and after 14 days we admit defeat and let them know its not going to be answered.

Or should it be flagged to the modérateur to action ?

Normally I look at latest questions each day and work around them.

Yes you can see those without replies by clicking on the heading topic replies first click gets you popular replies, click again and zéro replies.

Dont suggest we go back in time just new questions from a date decided.

Hi Paul,

You bring up a good point. Someone else also brought the point of old posts not are no longer active. Some 2, 3 years old or older and no longer active. Should something be done about them too?

Both item are good house keeping questions, but the owner of the forum may have his reasons for keeping it the way it is.

At least your post got one reply.

Take care,
Howard

Now its got two….. does this count as cheating if I answer myself and if I mark it solution then I get more points, and if i set up an auto reply on mails I get within a year I could have the most popular question …..

Think any thatbare over 6 months without an action could be dropped but open to suggestions

When i gave a time span it was just an idea not fixed time.

We could have an archive, but I would like old topics to stay accessible somewhere.
The forum page cant keep growing indefinitely … not sure if discourse handles this

That in itself is a sort of a reply… it says

  • we cant answer the question
  • the topic is really off limits
  • impossibly bad English

not sure how we handle this

I believe this would be a good idea for both old inactive and zero reply posting.
Archive for viewing and searching. No further updates,
My 2 cents.

I’m generally in favour of leaving older posts up, as you never know when someone might come by with a solution… I’ve necro’d older threads in other forums with solutions as I figure if I’m still looking for the answer, I’m probably not the only person doing so.

Yeah there’s presumably an upper limit somewhere. Discourse powers communities with 5.8m users though, so I don’t think we’re too likely to hit it here.
