While I’m thinking of it, I have to give a shout out to Servarica for being probably one of the least expensive and best hosting providers I’ve ever come across.
If you’re in the market for a decent inexpensive VPS (or dedicated server, jump on em quick though, they go fast and they don’t get a lot in very often) … try em out. Nothing but good experiences with them.
My favourite is titan internet. Been with them for over 25 years and never an issue the could not help me with
But they don’t offer VPN
For VPS, I have been switching back and forth between Hetzner and Linode… For learning some server basics, I rather have not too expensive solutions.
For web hosting, I love PlanetHoster (they have a great service and are really reliable), but they’re not the cheapest ones. Not having to worry about the server itself is actually a bonus for me.

Mainly because they are the main supplier in france and so the tech support is french but they do offer other languages, most of the french local government use them. So a safe bet for me to recommend them over a uk based one.
Using wordpress as the site database. Yes we could have chosen wordpress own host but the .anguage barrier could cause issues down the line.
For my purposes I needed a VPS the most cheap/affordable possible.
I choosed Aruba, becaue they seemed to be the most affordable that time.
I got a 1 core CPU, 1GB RAM, 20GB disk space.
That’s not a “powerplant”, still much more than I really need.
But I needed reverse DNS, and I got it there too…
I could choose from different datacenters, I choosed the one in Czech, because geographically it was the nearest to me.
I pay all this for 1200 HUF ($3.3) / month.
Servarica seems to have a $29 / year option for a low-end VPS, but I don’t seem to be able to buy it…
I get 404 
I have ended up using different providers depending on the workload.
For smaller projects, DomainRacer has been a good budget option with KVM VPS, NVMe storage, reserve DNS, and multiple data center choices.
For production workloads, I have had better experience with DedicatedCore. Their NVMe VPS and dedicated servers offer consistent performance and multiple datacenter locations, so it’s easier to deploy closer to your users.
For me, choosing the right datacenter, network quality, and support matters more than simply picking the cheapest VPS.

Old thread, but as it’s recently been necro’d, I’ll throw my hat in the ring: I like Infomaniak. Not the world’s cheapest VPS, but still pretty reasonably priced for the cheaper offerings in the lite range. The main pros are: it’s hosted in Switzerland, so subject to Swiss law; privacy focused sovereign alternative to the U.S. cloud; and as a bonus, powered by local renewable sources. Anecdotally, they’ve been super reliable too.
