How to change wallpaper settings (tile, zoom, center, scale, fill, span etc…) through command line in Ubuntu 20.04??
this page shows how to use gsettings to make changes to your background. if you install dconf-editor, you should be able to see the name of the setting you are looking for.

I finally gave up on customizing the background and loaded Variety. Solves the problem!
