What exactly is Protonmail and is it better than GMail?

So I was reading some linux article and stumbled upon ProtonMail.

Checked about it and it seems like just a security focused email.
So is that the only difference or there are more pros of using it??

Till now I have only used GMail and Outlook.

For blocking trackers, I have a duck.com email address which redirects emails to my main gmail account. I use them for some newsletters and websites.

Here is a video comparing ProtonMail to Gmail.

For myself, I never cared for the Gmail interface. I’m a Yahoo Mail user.

Me too. That’s where my main email account is. A few years back, I started a gmail account because I got mad with some of the Ad’s that pop up on the side bar of yahoo. The Ad’s has stopped, but I kept both emails account.

I’ve been using Protonmail for several years. I moved into the paid service so my wife can have her own account in the family group.

Never a spam message. Never.

The calendar works, the VPN works, the security seems better than most.

I play Escape from Tarkov–it requires a Gmail account. That’s all I use Gmail or Google for. Google is too dangerous and has NO security. You might as well print your emails on a billboard along the highway.

I heartily recommend the Proton family of services.

I also love and use Protonmail. Other than what Bill mentioned, I will say Protonmail’s implementation of email alises is quite good.

For example, on Thanksgiving some people in my family wanted to watch football, and I found out Fubo gives you access to football for free for one week if you sign up. So I created an email alias in Protonmail, signed up with that. When I was done using Fubo, I canceled the subscription and then deleted the alias so I would no longer get any marketing emails from them.

I do want to note that I have paid for Proton’s stuff for like a year and a half now, so I am not sure if the email alias thing is part of the free account, but its still great.
