If you love virus issues you love windows,
It prints me money so no complaints about that
I dont get it. It is the same LO as in Linux ( or Mac)
If the apps are the same you must think the Win microkernel is better than the Linux kernel… I thought most Win users were sold on the Win apps not the kernel. ?.. or maybe it is the Win Window system that people are sold on?
Or maybe Win users are not really attached to any part of it… they just use it because everyone else does and they are afraid to be different.
You are not like that, you are adventurous but still a Win fan?
Yes it is available for Windows too, as is Openoffice. A majority of opensource stuff is available on Windows. GIMP, Inkscape, Kdenlive. You name it, you’ll find a majority of Linux stuff works in Windows.
So if you replace everything in Win with Open Source, do you get something that a Win user is still happy with?
Sadly no, think lemmings, it has to say microsoft to be any use. Cannot get fired for using windows idea.
But the same people will buy an android phone or tablet and think nothing of it, or drive a car with linux system inside. The shock I see on peoples faces when i suggest android is linux !(ok not exactly but so close)
We used to have that here but others kept laughing AT me rather than with me !
Tell them Mac is BSD.
Have you ever tried Android X86?
Maybe you could sell them that in place of Win.
I have ran every version of Windows since W95, have yet to see my first virus!!!
I just downloaded that .iso today! LOL. I am not savvy enough as @daniel.m.tripp to get my phone to display on my old SP7 running Pop OS. But this OS can be used from USB as a live session or installed.
Thought I would play around with it.

Yeah @Daniel_Phillips but you are not the average user who blindly downloads free stuff or installs unknown apps from Lord only knows which site. ![]()
Most “users” know nothing of how the system works and what can happen when you override that Windows warning.

I think I can relate to that.
When I moved from FreeBSD to Linux I was very wary. I asked a local computer guy and he said try Debian or SUSE. I installed Debian in a dual boot with XP. It was a new world. I hardly dared to even allow an update.
I went for years ignoring new releases.
What finally made me comfortable was using R in Linux… it is a superb pairing and you can live in R and just about ignore the Linux until you want to print something.
It was years before I ventured out of Debian and tried other distros.
So yes, perhaps not quite fear , but lack of confidence.
I would like to hear how you go using google play store apps on Android X86.
Not sure I’d qualify myself as “tech savvy” ![]()
I did recently get scrcpy to work over WiFi…
i.e. hooked up my phone via USB C cable to my Pop!_OS computer… ran “adb devices” and there it is… ran “scrcpy” and got my phone screen up on my Linux desktop… Exited scrcpy… ran it again with “scrcpy --tcpip”… exit… unplug USB from phone… run “scrcpy --tcpip” again - and I can view my Android phone screen over WiFi…
OK - just remembered something - the default version of adb and scrcpy (1.21) don’t work for me on Pop!_OS 22.04 and Android 15.
I had to download the x86_64 binaries for v3.3.1 from github : GitHub - Genymobile/scrcpy: Display and control your Android device
I just untar’d it to a folder and ran it ./scrcpy --tcpip :
I haven’t attempted trying to make DeX (Samsung Desktop Mode) work via scrcpy… I probably wouldn’t bother… Amazingly - clipboard works both ways - e.g. I can paste from my Pop!_OS clipboard into Android, and I can paste my Android clipboard into apps on Pop!_OS!
You see a much wider range of gear than most people.
For the benefit of those like me who had to look it up
"scrcpy provides display and control of Android devices connected on USB (or over TCP/IP). It does not require any root access. "
Have you ever tried to scan with any of the common tools such as
Adwcleaner from malwarebytes
You may be in for a surprise !
Sadly I get to see at lease one per week but it is making me money and I ran it as a business.
NO still prefer lmde for support, perhaps If I find some time in winter will look it up
Even if I installed every piece of Opensource software into Windows, still get badgered by Microsoft. So no would never be happy in Windows. Hence why all my computers have Linux on them.
That was going to be my next attempt, already downloaded but did not yet understand that I could just use the command “scrcpy --tcpip” I figured I would have to get the IP address of the phone/tablet and create a config file or something.
Thanks @daniel.m.tripp. I will try it this weekend when I have some time and see if it works in Pop OS.

Yes, who would want Linux with a Windows kernel?
Maybe someone with driver issues.?
The kernel is the best component of Windows. I read somewhere that the Windows kernel dev team could run circles around the Linux kernel devs.
That being said, it’s all the rest of Windows which is complete and utter crap.
You dont include the Windows window system in that, I hope.
I would question the merit of their filesystems… they are part of the kernel.
