Wireless Network Option Missing Ubuntu 20.04.1 LTS

The wireless network adapter is missing from the Network Pane in Settings. It vanished after my computer unexpectedly quit during a VPN install. I was trying to install OpenVPN to enable the use of ProtonVPN . I have since changed my super user password, but I still don’t have all permissions. I can’t connect to the internet on this 2012 HP Laptop with a fairly fresh Ubuntu install. Net Tools is missing. I changed the .yaml netplan file to include a wireless access, generated a netplan and applied it, all using Terminal, but no luck .
What should I do now?
