If you're using deep seek, read this!

I just saw this warning about Deep Seek AI security issues in my Krebs on Security newsletter. If you use it, you should read the linked item.

It’s worth noting that this only applies to the mobile app and official website

The model itself is open-source

And can be used locally

AI has been pushed well before ready in my opinion.

The gathering of info it will do is obviously for monetary gain.
I won’t be a sheep.

@WebWizard, After reading this item, I saw a news item on local TV reporting that the owning company has significant ties to the Chinese government. That in and of itself gives me pause about using it.

My2Cents,

Why to start in the first place?

I detest the massive digital control over citizens lives. Only in China?
Don’t be naive, we are going to get the same level of control, of course not by Chinese gov.t, but by companies on this side of the world - if we allow this to happen.

Another approach: Chinese government rules digital world in China, that government strictly controls companies, especially big reputable companies, even more especially strategically important companies.
(If something, then AI is really a strategically important thing these days)

In the western world this seems to be the other way around: the big companies rule the government, just think of facebook, it basically has the power to decide who can win an election; big companies (with huge lot’s of money, maybe more money than a country can have) can force a government to decide in a question pro- or contra- according to their whish (thus making even more money, which equals even more power).

So if you want my 2 cents: we face the same level of control in the not so far future, as the chinese have it now - again: if we allow it to happen.

It’s wise to stop (even better not start) to use the chinenese AI, because of privacy conerns, as it steels all our data it can…
But do you really think ChatGPT does not?
Why on earth wants Elon to buy ChatGPT (for a “paltry” sum of $ 97 400 000 000) now?

Tha same is under construczion China already has…

Just another approach: I don’t beleive everything in China is evil. If they could come up with an interesting, less resource hungry solution for AI, that is something woth to think about - think about it at least…
As I see: this AI nuked the AI industry, nVidia lost a visible amount of value of its shares. The attacks against this thing could be the attempt to reduce that lost: so remove the threatening competitor from the market: blame it for being chinese, thus dangerous. That would partially restore the market shares.

And my final approach, I think best quoted right from the Bible:

“…but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.”
1 Thess 5:21,22

I could not to sum it all up more concisely.

I’ve just opened a AI Chinese restaurant.
No personal data needed, we get that from your ISP.

Sure
And no need to print a menu, as the background process immediatley tells what sort of food the guest currently whishes.

I never stated that I use any AI software that I can avoid. I’ve even removed copilot from my Windows 11 system here (as far as Microsoft allows).

Be aware, MS updates reinstate removals.

I know. I check for copilot re-installations following each patch Tuesday update and with each preview update.

Shouldn’t be the need to do so.

Are you telling me that this MS crowd put things into your machine that you do not ask for?
