Need help finding a decent Linux compatible USB Wifi device

Note: Others should chime in here as I’ve never done this personally, but I know someone who did when he was up to ^^^^here fighting the adapter driver problem on his esoteric JoeysCrabShackLinux.

All he did was buy the world’s cheapest used router that could go into “client mode”.

Or if you have an old one laying about, you could check to see if there’s 3rd party firmware (or original) that can do that.

Theoretically there are no drivers to worry about at all: The new router connects to a Cat{whatever} port on your system, and everything works as normal.

Note, for some reason on ASUS routers, “client mode” is called “media bridge” mode. Talk about confusing.

Awesome!

AIUI, the TPLinks suffer from a semi-recent change in chipsets, which reeks havoc with drivers.

My Panda PAU09, $50, (both 2.4 & 5Ghz) worked just by plugging in too.

The PAU06 (2.4Ghz only) is dirt cheap. ($17).
