I changed from and old nvidia card to a new AMD card
There were some issues with the new AMD card being too new for some distros (particularly Debian)… I just moved to a distro (MX Ahs) that supported it.
That problem has disappeared with time… all distros support it now.
I would recommend an AMD graphics card. They dont drop support for old cards. Nvidia do drop support as cards age… that is your problem… it was my problem too.
