What music do you listen to?

Funny story for you, @R_G Roger. I was living in Thailand and bought a small washer for the family. It played a little tune when the cycles were completed that sounded familiar, but I couldn’t place it. I sang it to all my musician friends, and finally a pianist recognized it as the Trout theme from the Trout Quintet. Now I can only imagine how much fun the engineers at Samsung had adding that!

I love this new video, especially the dance.

Having listened to two of Heilung’s CDs, I would describe them as thrash metal for steampunks.

My favourite genre of metal is ‘stoner/doom’ (and maybe prog metal : and some “prog”) - and I like space-rock stoner (I was into Hawkwind in my youth - many decades ago).

Including one of my favourites I “discovered” last year - the band “Bongtower” from Stavropol in the former CCCP :

I love the heavy Russian accent (when I’m at work - two Russian guys [they’re network/security engineers] work behind me all day and chat to one another in Russian and heavily accented English - one of them loves Linux, and he uses Arch - how do I know that? The answer’s obvious  )

And just today I “found” a local Perth West Australian band Apollo80 :

Rigged up an old 4:3 monitor to my old desktop machine and I use it as a music player - old school style with a Fallout theme and cool-retro-term - thrashing some Rammstein up loud while I’m in lockdown again (started Friday night - I was at work - so we started emptying the work beer fridge even before “Beer O’Clock” [usually 4:00 pm] when the lockdown announcement came down about 2 pm) : Deutschland Deutschland Deutschland (I’m about ~33% German, from both Grandmothers - one grandma’s mum was Anglo/Australian, but her dad was German, my other grandma - both her parents were German**) :

Seen them live twice - the last one was quite possibly best live gig I ever went to (in 2011) - definitely in my top 5 gigs “ever”…

This is the only bit of German that came down to me from my paternal grandmother (her German born father died when she was a baby and she didn’t ever know him - so I guess it came from her mother - who hailed from Neudorf - they were “vine cutters” - emigrated to Australia in the mid 19th Century) : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ45ybDvfc4 - my dad used to sing this to me…

Listening to Imagine Dragons all day today. Their last two albums are just a bomb, they blow my mind and stimulate me to listen to songs over and over again.

Affirmative. :+1:

Well here it is
I listen to this

As of late I am getting into Berlin Techno (not the jingly, but the intensive one).

It is very soothing and ruminant to listen to. It helps me a lot to focus, when programming.

These two are my favourite guys so far. Don’t know better or at least comparable ones, yet. All others are too generic and too soft.

Both my guys doing an unforgettable collaboration:

Someone in my house had covid and I did the “right thing” yesterday - had a ticket to see a gig I’ve been hanging out to catch for NINE MONTHS - and I didn’t go - I coulda - nobody would have stopped me…

And I am still FUCKING PISSED OFF about it… new album - their first gig in Perth since 2019 - who ever knew how long it would take for 2019 to expand!

Still spitting chips about missing that gig… my favourite Aussie post-punk-psyche-blues band Tropical Fuck Storm… touring their new album…

So - anyway - right now - keeping me motivated is my favourite Ukrainian band “Somali Yacht Club” new album, released on Friday - “The Space” - go buy it and help The Ukraine - bandcamp is run by some awesome people and ALL of the royalties for Ukrainian artists go to the artists, right now, if you’re a sicko and you support Putain - I say - a big FU to U… there’s NOTHING “woke” about supporting a mass murdering piece of crap like Putain (yeah - big joke - UK isn’t much different - yeah - I know - they’re going to “gift” Assange to the USA)…

When it comes down to it - “generationally” there’s not much diffference between USA / English imperialism and Russian agression… BUT BOTH SIDES BEING WRONG doesn’t make either side RIGHT!

Help Ukrainian artists - e.g. :

shit - that’s not only lit - it’s fuckin’ loud! about 10 decibels louder than my local copy,…

And who am I kidding… I’m bitter about missing that gig last night, but some of the best years of my life were spent playing Borderlands 2, native Linux version, in LINUX

I love my music LOUD and I love it heavy - and nobody does HEAVY like Boris out of Japan - and the’ve done THREE albums between now and the start of 2020…

They’re not young either…

Interested? Look up their lead guitarist, Wata, she’s about 4’9" and gorgeous - there’s a youtube video of her playing at a record store meet and greet, and punters ears are bleeding! <3 BORIS <3

I live in the same metropolis where Bon Scott’s buried - i.e. West Oz, Perth / Fremantle… Saw AC/DC once, my first ever concert, with Bon Scott, December 1976 in Melbourne…

And I still call them “old” AC/DC and “new” AC/DC with Brian Johnson, I don’t hate Brian Johnson, but I do LOVE Bon Scott era AC/DC…

I’m now listening (loud) to a Belgian “doom/stoner” band called Gnome - and uncannily settled on Gnome as my main preferred desktop (i.e. I’m distro agnostic, so long as I can use Gnome 4.x) - and now playing Gnome’s 2018 album : “Father of Time” in Sayonara (version 1.7 of which is in Fedora’s default repos - i.e. “sudo dnf install sayonara”) until something convincing comes along :

(note - I no longer need my imgclip shell script - Nautilus in Gnome 4.1 on Fedora 35 lets you right click and copy an image, as a bitmap, into the clipboard!).

And promo singles from their new album “King” are hilarious - love a sense of humour :

I also like Ramstein though I am not German even at 0.1 percent I guess
My playlist can also include Imagine Dragons and Sia

I know it sounds wrong, but I am slightly more than 1/3 German, than my other 1/3 English and 1/3 Irish… i.e. both my grandmothers had German fathers, but my paternal grandma had BOTH parents of German ancestry, where my maternal grandma had a German father, and an Australian / Anglo / Irish mother…
