Lets see if we can find out what aspects of this forum are most appreciated by our members.
I will start it off. What I mostly appreciate from this forum is
some mental challenge helping to solve computing issues
inspiration… the flow of new ideas
Can each of you attempt to summarize what you see as important or rewarding in our forum.?
when joining this forum back in Dec 2018 I had some question in mind I wanted to ask. I cannot remember what the problem was back then, but I was impressed by how quickly I recived an answer.
What amazed me considerably was the friendly conversational tone in this forum.
So I kept asking questions whenever they entered my mind.
As my knowledge of Linux (slightly) progressed I liked to share some of the solutions I came up with, in case anyone might be interested in it.
Yes, I guess at least trying to help others might be some stimulation as well.
I also like following the discussions of other members in the forum, even if I´m not able to contribute anything worthwhile.
You never stop learning, do you?
Oh, and and I also like the option of conversing with some friends I found here within private chats/messages.
Ah yes, it is great for looking up man pages or howto’s, but not much use for consoling the poor user who has just wiped his/her files, or overwritten their grub.
It’sFOSSCommunity reminds me of the bar in Cheers. Everybody knows your name, greets you as a friend, and all that’s important is good manners and liking beer…um, Linux.
I look for help and hope to provide some help. It’s nice to just chat with a variety of people with some similar and some different interests and experiences. Many of the topics bring back memories of the old days in college or early in my career.
After the protonic site shut down I was looking for something that was based around linux in a support concept.
Originally I asked a few questions and was surprised by both the quality of the answers and the depth of knowledge. I did wonder if I was of sufficient skill or knowledge to get involved or even help others.
Over time I have contributed to different discussions and although not an expert I have gained so much more from the contributions of others.
I would consider I am stuck in the linux mint camp and enjoy using that system I still read and get knowledge out of other versions of linux.
The site has enabled me to communicate and share experience with so many different members and gained not just an insight to their computer problems and issues but expand my knowledge of other subjects.
Working alone is fine but you run out of people to bounce ideas off. This site allows me to do that.
No-one has mentioned this.
Posts that ask for help in making a decision always generate lots of responses.
What is it that drives us to respond when someone says “I cant decide which way to go” ?
I came here to hijack and derail legitimate threads with irrelevant satire, sarcasm or lame memes…
Right answer :
I saw something posted on socials about Sayonara Media Player, by Abishek - maybe 2018 or 19? Took a look - it was an It’s FOSS post - and I ended up here… Still here, and still using Sayonara
