I came here to find a community of FLOSS users, like myself. On top of being a FLOSS user, I’m also a Linux user.
From time to time I ask a question or try to help out where I can.
I like the community spirit, which makes me stick around.

Some of our best discussions happen in ‘off-track’ mode.
For me, I keep going back to places where people genuinely help, where there’s solid trust in the answers, and where newcomers aren’t made to feel unwelcome.
Hi Bob and welcome,
We do try to give correct answers, but there can always be slipups.
There will always be questions which noone here has the experience to answer .
Sometimes we can guide a person to finding their own solution
Remember this site is a discussion forum as well as a help site. Dont be afraid to have your say on any topic.
Regards
Neville
Are very welcome to share, ask and enjoy.
Like to watch progress of Linux in particular Mint.
Get to see all the wonderfull things that can be done, and wish I was that clever.
Signal to noise ratio top notch.

Great for one-off Python scripts. Use it (occasionally) in Wave. Just did a quick script to scan the LAN for specific open ports. Edited the IP’s and ports and it worked a charm.
Yes, I really enjoy this friendly accommodating forum and for the past few years have at least read all entries be it that I am just a simple Mint and Zorin user. With newsgroups declining , this forum is my main source for learning and help.

Hi Neville,
My main reason for joining this site has been the community. Everyone I’ve met here has been friendly, interesting, intelligent, humble, and display many other positive attributes I can’t correctly enumerate off the top of my head right now. I especially love that no one whose post I’ve read here has responded to a request for help in a condescending manner. While the quality of the help request responses is about the best I have encountered anywhere else in the Linux-verse, it’s really the people who keep me coming back. I’ve made many new friends here, and among them you, Abhishek, and Rosika were among the first who welcomed me here.
Additionally, this site gives me a place to write about my adventures in GNU/Linux, and publicize my opinions on just about anything without fear of being ostracized so I always feel that I’m among friends here. Finally, this site enables us all to meet, and get to know people from all over the world. From that exposure, I’ve learned that we’re all more alike than different, and that, given the opportunity, we can find a way for all of us to get along together.
There’s probably more to say, but that’s what comes to mind right now,
Ernie
Why do I come to this forum?
Firstly, because I accepted Abhishek’s invitation, for which I am grateful
Second, because of the people. More than a forum, it is a meeting place for people who share a love of learning about and using Linux. Here, as Bill rightly said, everyone knows our names, and like Ernest said, most users have become friends
Thirdly, because the users who frequent the forum are humble and answer all questions, whatever they may be, in the best possible way and always with the greatest possible simplicity. I, for example, have to study a lot to answer certain topics, but here, in this forum, I am not afraid to write something wrong, because another user will immediately correct me in a civilized manner
Finally, I believe that the spirit that exists in the forum is the answer to Neville’s question.
“How can we help?”
I truly believe that this phrase is the motto of our forum.
Jorge
Just to follow up, I would especially like to thank Jorge, who I found through this site, he was able to answer my questions totally outside of the site by email exchange, one on the toll charges on the Portuguese motorway which I had not been able to find or translate, and another using his knowledge on sound systems.
Totally un linux related but very helpful.
So this site not only enables linux exchange but also international friends
Hi Paul,
Thanks for your kind words.
It’s thanks to the spirit of mutual help that exists on the forum, and that’s down to all of us.
Jorge
It amazes me how people suddenly come to help on a particular issue. We all have something to contribute.
Yes I also really enjoy accessing and being a modest participant of this forum .
Key points : interesting - friendly - accommodating - very helpful

Hello Friends
Here my reasons:
and well I am here since some time ago
I have seen that on other forums… perfectly reasonable technical questions pushed aside because they are off topic or not covered by the forum
i think our equivalent of a down vote is that a request that no-one here can address will simply attract few replies.
Did not réalisé other forums offered that service, for me there is no wrong or silly question just a request for help
Guess a down vote is if you disagree with a comment or it is negative (but don’t know)
Here even if a question gets no reply you can at least look at the statistics on the bottom of the question to see how many have viewed, liked, replied
Also I note if you disagree with an answer the exchange continues in a civil manor and on those occasions there is usually a “sorry" included at some stage. Which is healthy and practical encouragement
I think some forums only accept posts within a defined range of topics. Sometimes this is quite narrow. I have noticed users being told to post elsewhere.
I am no expert… I only read other forums.
I have never looked for other forums just happy here
I know the UK newspapers and YouTube have vote with thumbs up or down but try not to waste my time doing them
Well, sometimes you have to, unfortunately.
