Why do people come to this forum? Feedback please

I’m also a member of the Linux Mint forums. They are surprisingly friendly as well. That being said, I’ve seen one or two threads being locked because of people becoming emotional or pushing too hard.

Whoever needs a special experience: Post something to stackoverflow. Then you get a chance to learn how it feels in tar and feathers.

Just my 2 cents.

This site is my main URL / WiKi for solving issues I can’t figure out myself (or stuff I fixed once and nutted out online here).

And I think other users use this as similar - like @Doron_Beit-Halahmi

And it does sometimes come up front and centre on a google search…

My whole issue with bridged networking in KVM / virt-manager was solved by one of our less frequent contributors… I really can’t be arsed digesting reams of posts in sites like Reddit or Stack Overflow… and I’ve always avoided sites like Stack Overflow because the few times I’ve posted legitimate queries I get jumped on by keyboard commands…

Same thing with FreeNAS / TrueNAS - the few times I’ve posted on their forums I get jumped on and downvoted - what’s the point of that shit anyway? Are they trying turn people back to the mainstream of Wintel?

some of the best URLs for finding solutions are : The ARCH WiKi (which I don’t run BTW), this forum - and the Raspberry Pi forums - sometime’s there’ll be stuff that’s way more Debian than actual Raspbian - very helpful and everyone’s polite…

The It’s FOSS website was tremendously helpful as an average Windows user who wanted to migrate to Linux & FOSS. I was making the switch from big tech due to privacy concerns, and looked all over for a trustworthy forum to ask privacy related questions. I kept thinking, “man it’d be nice if It’s FOSS had a forum, especially if it was hosted on something privacy friendly like Discourse or phpbb.” Then, one day while I was on the main page, I realized I was an idiot who had overlooked the community tab for nearly a year.

This community, though relatively small, has consistently provided faster and more helpful answers than I get on any other Linux-related forum - even those that are > 10x larger.

Thanks to everyone who makes this such a helpful & friendly place for FOSS enthusiasts of all levels, and an even bigger thank you to Abishek for making it all possible.

Many voices does not make a succesful forum.
I think our big asset is talented people. There always seems to be someone who will take on a problem, or start a new topic, or provide a new viewpoint for a discussion.

Thank you!

I’ve been on Linux for over 2 years now, so I’d say it’s went pretty well! Went from dual booting Mint with Windows 10 on a spare laptop, to just Linux (mostly CachyOS & LMDE), and now dual booting Linux and BSD. I also only use FOSS apps whenever possible, and I must say the experience has been much better for the most part.

One year in with Linux Mint and I still have a LOT to learn about Linux. This forum has helped me tremendously with filling in gaps in my understanding.
