Megasync not working

So you just have a simple wifi link to,a modem, configured with the standard tools.
I cant see that being a problem.
I presume you did not alter any modem firewall settings. Dont go there, leave it alone.

It is possible your ISP changed something… that used to be common, but unlikely today.

Simple wifi link to a router with a VPN connected to a modem, been using that for years. When LM installed I connected to it during install and after install it auto set it up.

And I did not alter any file, even firewall rules since adding port 8080 the other day, only to find it was already in the file, probably Mega did that automatically from the start.

ISP changing anything would have caused more issues than Mega, right? And no other computer is having the issue, even a tablet & laptop with Win11, which has the Proton bridge connected to Outlook and Mega is working fine there after their server went down Tuesday.

Again, it could just be coincidence them happening at the same time, but here goes another install attempt from the downloaded file direct from Mega.

I think it means you need to do a system update/upgrade first.

I did, but there was nothing listed to upgrade or update. BUT after rooting around all day and removing everything I could find “star.megasync.star” I guess it got it cleansed as this time, I got the initial install screen to log in or create account.

But, of course, it just sits there “logging in” still after 3 min and will probably keep trying.

Sheila

I got the crazy idea to instead of “logging in” choose “create a new account” and used my existing info and here it is still trying to process that:

Crazy thing.

Then I tried creating new acct with new email…same thing. So it can’t be an issue with my account, the desktop app is somehow not communicating or something. Website is, but not desktop app.

Sheila

Can you right click on the desktop app and bring up properties and check your permissions?

Says root owns.

I dont suppose the desktop app had an upgrade which was faulty
Check version numbers

That is not surprising!!! You might contact @nevj and ask about using chown to change permission to you the owner.
You say you have a W11 laptop, have you tried to install Megasync in Windows and use Protonmail in Windows?

I’m not sure how to tell. If you look at ALL Linux versions, there is no LM or Ubuntu, even though downloading from the links you are given Linux Mint and Ubuntu. So if looking at all of them and you choose Xubuntu (the only Ubuntu in their page of downloads) there was an update a month ago. Don’t think that was it, but I don’t know when it was applied.

So they are using Xubuntu for all Ubuntu & LM?

W11 has always had Protonmail bridge with Outlook and Mega and on both my Surface 7 and laptop they are working fine. I don’t always check mail there, so not sure if it was open on Tues during the server outage, but there has been no notifications or anything on either of those computers that anything changed or is not working.

Sheila

Well hold on…the Mega icon in W11 is hidden and I looked just now and it has that spinning white arrow circle and clicking it says the process is taking longer than expected. Let me try rebooting W11 and see what happens. Maybe it really is broken everywhere.

Sheila

Sheesh, when I restarted Mega, just like in Linux, only options are exit and settings. Difference on W11 is settings popped up the proxy but had additional option of autodetect, which was selected; I chose no proxy and it closed and now Mega says logging in just like Linux.

Let me check my Surface.

Sheila

Surface Mega also had the spinning arrow issue, but before I clicked anything else (cause at first you get the options for all items) and chose About. Says version 4.9.5 64-bit and new this version: Fixed the detected crashed on Linux & Mac. Yeah, right.
Once I did that, it went into the process taking longer than expected and spinning.

So, to test out that theory about protonmail bridge, etc., I can easily remove it from the Surface tablet and then see if Mega starts working. Give me a few.

@nevj @4dandl4
I removed the bridge from Surface and have not rebooted yet. Should I? Mega still has the error in syncing but it is not saying “logging in” but rather syncing 1/2 and process is taking longer than expected error. Laptop is saying logging in like Linux and will not let me access the settings the way Surface has since I first checked it, before removing bridge.

After rebooting Surface (after removing bridge) it too is now saying logging in like all the others. Should I try to reinstall the Mega app on W11 on Surface and see what happens?

Sheila

Why not!!! You know Outlook mail can be used with Linux.

So Crossover claims, but I haven’t tried it since I couldn’t get Office 365 working. Why, you did it with Wine directly?

I am awaiting this slow-@@@ Surface to install mega.

Sheila

Fresh Mega install obviously had some settings saved as it did not ask me about sync everthing or partial, just went to logging in and is still trying…so guess Protonmail bridge did not have an effect.

I’m at a loss.
