I’m Sagar from India.
A software engineer and staff writer for itsFOSS.
ItsFOSS was my main source of information in the early days of using Linux and I expect that we should come up with some interesting topics, find hidden gems of Linux and promote FOSS as much as possible.

Unlike others, the reason why I started using Linux is hilarious. My laptop was throttling after heavy Windows updates so I switched to Linux. But the issue was related to hardware and that lead me to use Linux as my primary OS since 2019.

Welcome to the forum @sudoersagar.

That was also one of the main reasons I decided to try Linux. That and what seems like a daily scan of the hard drive.

Hello. My name is Mark Hawkins and I live near Dallas, Texas USA. I have retired from a 40+ year career as a computer technician. I have been using one Linux distribution or another since about 2010. For the last 5 years I have settled on Linux Mint with Cinnamon desktop. Pretty much I use the desktop; when necessary I will go to the command line if I have instructions. I have followed It’sFoss for a couple of years now and have learned some good information. I hope through this community to learn even more and maybe even answer a question or two.

Welcome @Doron_Beit-Halahmi ,
I hope you find something of interest in this forum, and I am sure you have lots to contribute. Arch is outside my experience, but I do currently have Gentoo and Void as experiments, and Debian and MX as a stable base.
This forum works by people responding to either questions or discussions. Dont be hesitant to have your say on any topic. People will benefit from your input

Thanks, it’s great to be here. I’m with like minded people, which is always nice.

I find Arch to be as “advanced” as I really want to go. Distros like Gentoo are good for just that, science experiments, but without a whole bunch of time to kill they’re kind of unpractical, though I understand the theory behind them. Also, I did LFS once… but that was it lol …

I would like to try LFS. But one thing at time
I needed help getting Gentoo started. Its install is a beast, but running it is easy and not very time consuming. Compiling is not really an issue on modern hardware.

True, I forget that when I played with it, compile time was an issue. lol

Will check out that discussion. Thanks!

Welcome aboard mate - I started my Linux journey in 1995 - with Slackware 3 (I’d dabbled with UNIX earlier) - I’ve heard / read a few things that put Slackware just a tad easier than Gentoo, but harder than Arch…

These days? I can’t be arsed monkeying about and compiling kernels - so I just use whatever’s quickest and easiest, usually Ubuntu itself, or one of it’s derivatives like Pop!_OS… I do fair bit of stuff and configuring in the shell, and if there wasn’t a shell, I would probably use FreeBSD or something…

I just want whatever’s gonna be quickest to get a Shell and KSH setup and my private cloud sync’ing software (Resilio Sync) working and connected via NFS to my NAS (TrueNAS)… I even use a couple of late model M1 Macs - because it’s UNIX under the hood

If find Ubuntu more plug and play than Windows that’s for sure… and
